Intro to our Community Partner:

- Stephen Klatt is a Clinical Technologist at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children (RCC), with a background in physiotherapy, kinesiology, and electrical engineering technology, and experience across Manitoba Hydro, CancerCare Manitoba, and pediatric rehabilitation.
- The RCC is a leading pediatric rehab centre in Winnipeg that develops custom mobility and communication solutions using technologies like switch-adapted toys, power mobility wheelchairs, eye-gaze devices, 3D printing, and CNC manufacturing.
- The RCC runs a unique Assistive Technology & Lending Library, allowing families to trial specialized devices (adaptive keyboards, switches, iPads, custom mounts) before committing, and frequently custom-fabricates individualized adapters.
Project Scope
- The RCC keeps various devices (assistive therapy tools, handheld devices, electronics) in circulation which require sanitization between patient-patient transfers.
- Devices are currently sanitized by-hand which is a time-consuming process that requires care and caution.
- Liquids used for sanitization risk damage to electronic components.
- UV-C sanitization is a novel method that mitigates the risk of damage from liquids and enables the sanitization of multiple devices simultaneously.
